New Law on Certified Medication Aides: A Pilot Program

Course Description

Governor Taft signed House Bill 66 on June 30, 2005. Within this House Bill 66, the Ohio Board of Nursing (Board) was given responsibility as the regulatory agency for the Medication Aide Pilot Program. This Bill created a Pilot Program that allowed nursing homes and residential care facilities to use certified medication aides (CMA). Board was given the responsibility to develop the Pilot Program, approve training programs that will train medication aides, certify them after successful completion in the training program and passing an examination. This independent study was prepared to inform nurses on the use of medication aides and their impact on nursing practice during the new pilot program in Ohio.
